Clouds of Witness – Part 1
By Dorothy L. Sayers Tonight, Lord Peter Wimsey is lying in a silk bathrobe at the Hôtel Meurice — café au lait barely set down, a Corsican holiday behind him — when Bunter folds The Times to the headline: Duke of Denver Arrested on Murder Charge. A fine place to begin. This is Sayers's second Wimsey novel, and Part 1 opens in 1920s England — shooting-lodges, a body found outside the conservatory at Riddlesdale Lodge, and a ducal family in the dock. Wimsey's dry wit arrives from the first page; so does Bunter, already repacking the bags. This is a slow, 1920s detective reading for sleep — soft spoken. No drama. Just a Paris hotel, a folded newspaper, and terrible news with the coffee.

Thanks for listening with us tonight. Sweet dreams.
